  Registration Information

Where do I register?
You may register in any voter registrar's office in Virginia or at special registration sites open at night and on weekends. Voter registration may also take place at offices of the Department of Motor Vehicles when you apply for, replace, or renew a driver's license or a special identification card or when you change your address on your existing driver's license or special identification card.

When do I register?
You may register any time of the year. To vote in a general or primary election, you must register at least 29 days before the election. To vote in a special election, you must register at least 13 days before the election.

When do general elections take place?
For most offices, general elections are held on the Tuesday following the first Monday in November. For city and town offices, however, general elections take place the first Tuesday in May.

Telephone your local voter registrar (in the blue pages of your telephone directory) for a homebound registration form, a transfer registration form, an application to change your name, an absentee ballot, registration times and places, and answers to other questions not listed.
