RIS Navigation Tips

1.       The F5 button on your keyboard is the refresh key. If changes to a section do not appear after using the RIS Update button in the RIS toolbar, hit the F5 button to refresh the screen.

2.       The headers at the top of each page in RIS may be used to navigate to various pages as follows:

·     The main heading, "Regulation Information System," takes you back to your list of agencies.

·     "Town Hall" takes you to a log-in screen and then directly to the project in Town Hall if it is linked to RIS.

·     "Projects" takes you to your list of pending RIS projects in numerical order.

·     "Tools" takes you to a page for updating the RIS template.

·     "Newsletter" links to the archive page for the Virginia Register News, a monthly newsletter for agency regulatory coordinators and RIS users. This is also available from the Register website under Resources for Agency Regulatory Coordinators.

3.       The RIS Projects List page shows projects in numerical order. Sort columns by clicking on the column headers.

4.       The Action ID number in the last column of the Projects List page is the linked Action ID number assigned by the Regulatory Town Hall system. "Del!" in this column means an RIS project that was previously linked to a TH action is no longer linked. If this occurs, please contact the Registrar's Office to troubleshoot the situation. If this area is blank, no TH action is linked to the project.

5.       Clicking on the project number from the Projects List page will provide you with the "history" of the project. This will build as projects are handled through RIS.

6.       Open a project by clicking on the manila folder in the project's row. This produces the Project Details page for the individual project. See the RIS User Instructions on the Register website for a step-by-step guide to inserting sections to amend, add or repeal into a project.

7.       Click on the section catchline to make changes to the "description." The "description" is used for the table of contents for the online VAC when a section becomes effective. The text should match the text on the section page as it will appear in the online VAC when it becomes effective.

8.       Click on the section number to open the section page. Navigation buttons on the section page perform the following functions:

·     "back" takes you back to the Project Details page at any time.

·     "prev" and "next" take you through the list of sections being amended, added or repealed in section numerical order.

·     "vac" opens a new window with the section from the current online VAC. This feature is not available for new sections being added in the project. Right click on "vac" and select "Open in New Tab" to open the current section in a new tab next to your current window.

·     "integ" activates the integrity check feature and compares the underlying text in the project section to the text in the current online VAC. This feature is not available for new sections being added in the project. After using the "integ" navigation button, go to another section and return to the original section to reactivate all navigation buttons.

·     "hilite" causes underlined text to appear in yellow and stricken text to appear in red.
